Scott Near LMPA, LRPS - Photographer & Creative Director
When I was 11 years old, I bought my first Single Lens Reflex (SLR) camera with money I was given for my birthday. This was of course long before digital photography so film was the order of the day. In a way, I am extremely grateful that I started with film because it taught me how to see before taking the photo.
Films and processing were expensive for a boy of my age so I would take a long time planning, checking settings and carefully composing the photograph before I even pressed the shutter release. This was a fantastic way to learn about the camera but there was one major flaw in this process. The subject.
Ironically, the things I wanted to photograph so meticulously with this painstakingly slow 'road to perfection' were birds and other wildlife. Yes you've guessed it. By the time the camera was ready and I was happy with the shot, the subject was usually long gone.
Thankfully though I learned a huge amount in relation to how a camera works, what makes a good photo and of course, how to do it all much quicker! When I attended Art School in Lincolnshire, I learned about darkroom processing and printing (among other disciplines) to complement my knowledge of photography.

Move forward more than 35 years from buying my first SLR, following a variety of non-photographic jobs and a computing degree, I am now the proud owner of Camerashy Photography and have been for a number of years. Film cameras have evolved into the digital variety and the darkroom has become Adobe Lightroom. I work from home in Edinburgh where I have my editing studio and my love for photography is as solid now as it was as a child.
My partner, Carrie, has joined the business full-time as our Client Relations Manager and controls the day to day operations of the business. I now specialise in wedding, commercial and food photography with a client portfolio including sports personalities, Michelin starred chefs. and some of the most prestigious companies on the planet.
The equipment I use professionally is from Nikon and Sigma, giving me a set of very robust and versatile tools with which to create the images you see throughout this site. When I'm not working I am usually photographing for pleasure - my love of wildlife photography never faded.
In addition to wildlife photography I love to travel so wherever I go at least one camera comes with me. Exploring a new place is always inspirational and I constantly look for new and exciting images to bring home.
